Invited by Professor Chun-Feng Liu, Professor Yang Liu from University of Saarland, Germany gave a brilliant talk entitled “Alzheimer’s disease:a cell membrane disorder?” in Institute of Neuroscience at 3:00pm, April 15th, 2014. The faculties and students from Institute of Neuroscience and School of Medicine attended this seminar and gave Prof. Liu a warm welcome.

       Prof. Liu’s research focuses on the molecular mechanism of neuroinflammation in AD pathogenesis. His lab  has  published several articles in the top journals of neuroscience including Brain, Journal of Immunology, Neurobiology of Aging and others. During the talk, he introduced the role of acid sphingomyelinase (ASM) in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). He found that the deficiency of ASM reduced Aβ burden in genetically modified mouse AD model. His findings inspired our PIs and students.  After the lecture, Prof. Liu had a deep, beneficial and inspiring communication with our faculties and students. and discussed other research progress in AD field.
