Dr. Cheng Jian is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the Institute of Neuroscience of Soochow University. He mainly focuses on the cellular mechanisms of glial cells in injury and repair following stroke, and searches for potential drug targets. From 2009 to 2011, he was an assistant professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Oregon Health and Technology University. During this period, Dr. Cheng received a grant as a principle investigator from American Heart Association (AHA) regarding stroke research. After returning to China in 2011, Dr. Cheng has received 5 grants from National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and 1 grant from State Key Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology. He has published more than 40 articles in international SCI journals such as Science Advances; held 3 pharmaceutical patents as the first principal inventor; served as a peer reviewer for several SCI journals such as Stroke and Experimental Neurology. In 2017, he won the second prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education, and the first prize of Jiangsu Science and Technology Award. Dr. Cheng currently serves as a committee member of Neuroendocrine and Endocrine Sub-professional Committee of Chinese Society of Neuroscience, a committee member of Translational Medicine Branch of Chinese Stroke Association, an executive director of Jiangsu Stroke Association, the chairman of Professional Committee for Basic and Translational Medical Stroke Research of Jiangsu Stroke Association, the vice chairman of Neuroimmunology Branch of Jiangsu Society for Immunology.
