Liu Yaobo, Ph.D., is a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor, Member of the CPPCC of Suzhou, Distinguished Professor of Soochow University, and Deputy Director of the Institute of Neuroscience at Soochow University. He also serves as Vice Chairperson of the Soochow University Committee of the China Democratic League and Director of the Laboratory for Neural Circuit Repair after Central Nervous System Injury. He is Technical Chief Expert for Major National Research Projects and Technical Leader of the Jiangsu Provincial Engineering Research Center for Neurological Disease Diagnosis and Treatment.

Selected for the Jiangsu Province High-Level Innovation and Entrepreneurship Talent Introduction Project, the Jiangsu Provincial Innovation and Entrepreneurship Talent and Innovation and Entrepreneurship Team Projects, the “333 High-Level Talent Training” Project of Jiangsu Province, and the “Six Talent Peaks Project”. He received his Ph.D. from the Academy of Military Medical Sciences in 2000 and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Chicago, USA. From 2007 to 2012, he served as Associate Professor, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor at the State Key Laboratory of Brain and Cognitive Science, Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Since 2012, he has been appointed as Distinguished Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, and Deputy Director of the Institute of Neuroscience at Soochow University. His research focuses on the mechanisms and technologies underlying neural regeneration and neural circuit reconstruction after central nervous system injury, with a particular emphasis on translational neuroscience. Representative studies from his group have been published in top journals such as Nature Neuroscience, Nature Communications, Science Advances, The EMBO Journal, Advanced Science, Cell Research, Cell Discovery, and Advanced Functional Materials. He has served as Principal Investigator for multiple major national research projects, including National Major Research Project, Key Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Key Program of the Joint Fund for Regional Innovation and Development of the NSFC, General Program of the NSFC, Project of the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), Project of the Key Special Program of the National Key Research and Development Program, and two Key Special Projects of the Jiangsu Provincial Key Research and Development Program. He has obtained a total of 24 research grants from national, provincial, and ministerial funding agencies. He has been granted nine international and domestic patents, received two Second Prizes of the Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Awards, and co-authored three academic monographs. Under his supervision, several doctoral students have been awarded the Basic Research Program for Young Students (PhD Students) of the NSFC and selected for the Young Elite Scientists Sponsorship Program of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST).
