Introduction of reporter:
Prof. Shen Yong was the State University of New York (SUNY) PhD (graduated in September 1989).He is a director of Center for Research and Treatment of Brain Disease, Roskamp Institute, and a professor of department of neurology, Florida State University School of Medicine. Dr. Shen has been joined University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). He is recognized as a Lecture Professor of Yangtze River Scholar, Ministry of Education of China. He is also a recipient of “One–Thousand Talents Project”.
Dr. Shen has earned respect worldwide for his groundbreaking progress in AD research. He led teams that discovered a way to positively diagnose Mild Cognitive Impairment and pioneered research that showed high levels of an enzyme in the brains of Alzheimer's patients trigger the development of a toxic protein. He also found the protein kills brain cells, or neurons, when a receptor sends out a death signal that triggers a cascade of destructive brain degeneration and leads to AD.
In addition, Dr. Shen played a vital role in solving a molecular and genetic puzzle indicating a stroke drug or derivative can be an effective new treatment for AD.
Currently, he is developing an International Institute for Drug Discovery with Sun Health Research Institute and collaborating with academic institutions in China to form a Pan-Asian Center for new drug discovery.
