Education, work experience and honors:

Prof. Wei graduated from Capital medical university; 1988-1993, a postdoctoral fellow in the department of neurosurgery in the state university of New York at stony brook; 1994-1996,  worked in the department of Neurosurgery in Washington university (st. Louis) and obtained the MD postdoctoral fellowship from the national institutes of health (NIH); 1996-2001, Assistant professor, department of neuroscience, cell biology and physiology in Washington university in st. Louis; 2001-2008, Assistant professor, Associate professor,  and a tenured full professor in the Medical university of South Carolina (MUSC). 2008 - so far, full professor in the department of Neurology and anesthesia, Director of  stem cell research lab John E. Steinhaus Endowed Chair in Emory university, school of medicine. She won the Bugher Award (2000-2005) and the senior scientist award (2008-2013) from the American heart association. Prof. Wei published >100 SCI articles, >30 literature reviews and book chapters, and obtained more than tens of millions of dollars funding from NIH and other research institutes .

Main research direction and academic achievements: Over the years, Prof. Wei focus on the researches in ischemic and anoxic injury and the signalling of cell death, and is interested in the development and application of new therapy in the related fields. As civilization on stroke and traumatic brain injury caused by nervous system degenerative change and tissue repair mechanism gradually revealed, using adult stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells (induced pluripotent stem cell, iPS cell), first launched in nearly a decade of stem cells transplantation and regenerative medicine for stroke and traumatic brain injury treatment pioneering research. Key to reveal the pathological state of cerebral apoplexy compound cell death include necrosis, apoptosis and autophagy mechanism, involves a series of cell morphology, cell fine structure, electrophysiology and molecular regulation of the change of the network. And attaches great importance to promote brain injury and neurological degenerative change of tissue repair and functional recovery after important mechanism including angiogenesis, neurogenesis, axon growth, myelin repair and nerve vascular remodeling and so on. In recent years, the use of instantaneous and permanent brain ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke and brain injury animal models, especially by professor winnie team first Barrel Cortex small stroke models and Barrel Cortex of physiological and pathological mechanisms has become a current hot research topic in the field of neuroscience.
